# 3.4.2.1 Optimise load times

In many contexts where GovStack Building Blocks are being used, internet bandwidth may be slow, therefore it is essential to optimise load times and minimal data transfer.

1. Use [Google Lighthouse](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lighthouse/blipmdconlkpinefehnmjammfjpmpbjk) to test your web application's performance.
2. Identify areas for improvement based on the test results.
3. Implement improvements such as using compressed images, optimising front-end code, leveraging CDNs, etc.
4. Retest and continue to optimise as needed.
5. From a design perspective, only use necessary images, optimise images for the web, use CSS and SVG instead of images where possible, minimise the use of different font families, and optimise font loading if custom fonts are used.
6. Use AJAX/Fetch mechanisms for asynchronous and partial updates of the UI.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://specs.govstack.global/overview/23q4/govstack-ui-ux-guidelines/3-service-design-good-practice-guidelines/3.4-technology-choices/3.4.2.1-optimise-load-times.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
